Invite Updates

After much deliberation and number crunching, we have decided to go with invitation #2!  I picked this one because I love the sparkle, and out of all the wedding invitations I have received in my day, I haven't ever gotten one like this.

But of course, there is a snag in this plan.  I admit, I probably should have gotten invites squared away a month or two ago so I wouldn't be rushing...but I didn't, and time seems to have gotten away from me.  My goal is to get these babies out on November 7th.  So my other goal was to get these ordered this week.  Like Monday.  But alas, I emailed Envy Marketing asking about a couple color modifications, and how soon my order could be fulfilled, and I have yet to get an email back.  I am certain she is busy making beautiful invitations - her feedback is 100%!  But her lack of response have made me quite wary of my ability to meet the November 7th goal.

So what do I do?  Well, a picture is worth 1000 words...
This is what $40 at Hobby Lobby gets you.

I went walking around the Hobby Lobby at lunch today, just to see what I could find, and I found all these fantastic things and felt confident that I could make a similar but not completely copied invite like #2.  Inspired by, if you will.  And I made some practice printouts on the practice paper.  This weekend I am going to attempt assembly.  If I can pull this off, that will be some big time savings!

Does anyone have any advice for invitation making?  Or really any DIY words of wisdom they can lend?

Angela and Erik's Wedding!

What a great day Saturday was!  We (the girls) began the day at Platinum Entourage Blow Dry Bar, which was this super posh hair-do and make-up place.  It was a bummer that Jessie and I did not make appointments because they were totally booked up!  So we sat around and took pictures of Annie and Angela getting their hairs did, and Angela got her make-up done as well.  Let me tell you, these ladies and dudes at Platinum Entourage do some really awesome style and makeup jobs: check 'em -
Helloooo gorgeous!

The salon took up a bit of time, so we had to rush back to the hotel, throw our wedding clothes on and head out.  The ceremony and reception were held at the Historic 5th Street School, and it was such a neat place!  We were out in the courtyard area, and it was just the right amount of space for the crowd.  Angela and Erik exchanged vows in front of a beautiful fountain, and their officiant was really good, and just the right amount of laid-back and funny.  Angela looked stunning in a tea length strapless dress, and my favorite was the rosette skirt and her hip purple shoes!  Erik looked great too, and his boutonniere had a banjo in it (he plays) which was super cute.
  Just Married!

The color scheme was orange, purple and green - fall colors, but brightish tones.  I got more photos of the people rather than the decor, but it was very cute and DIY style, which is very Angela and Erik's style.  There were round tables set up in the courtyard, and the centerpieces were like a 6 pack of beer or soda - the cardboard holder but painted, and in the spots for the drinks there were pixie sticks and heart lollipops and such.  So cute!  The reception was all desserts and snacks, so we totally got all sugared up with all the sweets - which is awesome.  I love dessert more than anything, lol.  Here are some photos I took:
Aaron signing the guest book poster!

The cake!  That totally adorable pennant banner is from etsy, if you want one!

Ok guys.  This was soooooooo awesome - a mini donut station.  I know, right! : D  You get a little bowl of fresh out of the fryer warm donuts and strawberries, and then you dress them up with glaze of chocolate, or powdered sugar (or all of them...) to your heart's content.  It was fantastic, I went through the line twice!

And here is Aaron and I enjoying some fun and color coordinated sodas :)  We also ate some gourmet flavored popcorn, and cake and candy and it was wonderful!

And it was magical and fun and we are so happy for Angela and Erik and wish them happiness and sugar highs until the end of time! :)

Centerpiece Idea

It is T-6 months until the big day!  I am feeling a bit overwhelmed because school is starting in a few weeks and I was totally going to have everything pretty much planned by now, so I can focus on my learning.  We aren't quite there yet....

However, lucky us (my mom and I), because right down the street from where we live a HUGE Joann's craft and fabric place opened up.  I think this may be one of my mother's favorite stores, so she was there the first day it opened, lol.  And did she find a gem:
That's right!  David Tutera, of My Fair Wedding fame, has a whole line of wedding decor things at Joann's now.  So fun!  I used to be a huge fan of that show, but it has sort of turned into "David Tutera Tries to Turn my Circus Wedding into Something Attempting to Resemble Elegance Show". Thankfully some brides' (err...) unique (?) tastes are left out of the design/style of these pieces.

The design theme I am trying to have in the reception is one of a winter wonderland kind of look.  Think snow covered trees, lots of white and silver, and sparkle.

My mom found this super cool lighted tree branch thing:

And it is kind of hard to see, but the picture there on the bottom of the box is the look we are going to try to recreate with our collective DIY skills.  Here is the picture from the Joann's website, but the bottom part is cut off :\

But I am pretty excited, if we can pull it off I think it will look really cool!  And I love the bonus of getting a lit up look without creating a fire hazard at the top of a skyscraper.

I will post the pics once we have a completed centerpiece making dress rehearsal, send us some good crafty vibes :)

Something Blue?

We are almost to that portion of the program where I must outfit myself for the big day.  I like hammering out little details first because they seem like much less of a big deal than the dreaded dress hunt.  Right now my attentions are focused on the 'something blue' aspect of my look, but I just can't decide on which way I will express this tradition.  I could go with blue shoes as seen above, and since blue is one of our colors, it wouldn't be totally weird?

Or if I don't find any blue shoes I love, some clever people thought of a way to bedazzle your wedding shoes with some blue 'I do's!  Very cute indeed.

Or there is always the blue garter option.  This one has blue and silver, win!

Blue underwears are also a good way to discreetly wear blue.  Or blue pantaloons for the extra modest ladies out there, lol.

I must say, some blue jewels would be a fabulous way to be wearing blue.  Aren't these gorgeous!?

Or I could get a blue manicure?  My 16 year old self would be high five-ing me, lol

Eeek, maybe not this.

What was/is your something blue?

Etsy Inspiration

I am on a color quest, y'all.
Esty.com
So far I am loving navy/deep blues.  Navy will be the new black, mark my words!  I think blue would also be a good color if I decide to go with a winter theme.

The venue has a lot of black and gold going on, and the church is also pretty decked out in gold, so maybe an ivory or pearl color - because gold would be too matchy-matchy.

And maybe pink - I like pink flowers at least

But I have to keep in mind that it is A's wedding too, and he may not want a pink foofoo party...
He loooooves orange.  Since we are not having an autumn or summer wedding where orange is more appropriate, I could compromise with peach.

And I love greys.  Silver is like the fancy version of grey, so that could also work.  It would be a good winter color.

How on earth will I decide???

Any faves?  I'd love comments!
